Question: I've just installed an application on Vista and would like to run it by just typing it into the cmd window or by going to "Start"->"Run" - how do I do that without specifying the full path?

(This will also allow you to modify other system variables, such as location of the TEMP folder)

Answer:

1. Click Start -> Control Panel
2. Click System, on the right you’ll see “View basic information about your computer”
3. On the left is a list of tasks, click on “Advanced system settings.”
4. The Advanced tab of the System Properties dialog box is shown. Click the Environment Variables button on the bottom right.
5. In the lower box titled “System Variables” scroll down to Path and click the Edit button.
6. Add the path of the application at the end of the variable line (after the semi-colon)
7. Reboot your system
